Established in 1933, Merewether Golf Club is located in the heart of Newcastle and remains a favourite among golfers throughout the region.

Set among picturesque, eucalyptus-lined fairways, the course features strategic bunkers and challenging water hazards. This 18-hole layout offers a diverse range of holes and consistently excellent playing conditions year-round, providing a true test for golfers of all levels.

Merewether also boasts one of the finest practice facilities in Newcastle. The practice area includes a driving range where you can use your own balls, as well as putting greens and a bunker that closely replicate on-course conditions.

Please note: Practice facilities are available exclusively to members, their guests, and visitors playing the course.

Here at Merewether Golf Club, we have a combination of the traditional 6 and 7-day memberships along with alternative membership types that are designed for time-poor golfers as well as social golfers not interested in competitions or an official handicap.

HISTORY

Founded in 1933, Merewether Golf Club is one of the oldest and most established golf clubs in the Newcastle region. Over its 85-year history, the course has undergone many changes, evolving with the times while preserving its rich heritage.

Take a step back in time with us and explore how Merewether Golf Club has grown since its early days, from the appointment of our first men’s captain, F.J. Rourke, to the construction of the original clubhouse, and through to today’s modern course.

As longtime member Mrs. Perry fondly recalls:
“I can remember the course in 1936 only as a gravel hill — we had to tee up on every shot back then.”
